Cerasela Bănică at the Night Service with Maria Toghină – Radio Romania News – (March 28, 2021)
"On a personal, individual level, the effects of segregation are strong and long-lasting. A child who is taught right from kindergarten, from grade 0, that separation is normal for him because he is less good, because he has a certain color, a certain problem, a certain disability, that he is poor, that he does not performs as well as the others in the class, leads to the internalization of all these dramas, stigmatization that will be maintained until deep old age." – Cerasela Banica, President of CADO, on the prevention of violence, the elimination of segregation in education, respect for human rights and the principle of non-discrimination. About ethnic and racial inclusion on the show Conviețuiri, TVR 1 (07.07.2021)
Cerasela Bănică, president of CADO - Center for Advocacy and Human Rights, gave an interview on the topic of ethnic and racial inclusion in Romania, during the show Cohabitations, on TVR 1, on the 7th of July this year, bringing into discussion the largest action to monitor school segregation, which is carried out at the level of all schools in 11 counties, covering all 4 criteria: ethnic, disability, school performance or socio-economic situation , within the School for All Children II project. After carrying out this monitoring, the collected data will be sent to the Ministry of Education and together we will try to identify solutions. The state has the obligation to ensure equal rights for every citizen, including those who belong to an ethnic community.
"Since the first case of school segregation reported in 2003 by Romani Criss, the phenomenon still persists. Long-term human and financial resources are needed to effectively combat segregation through desegregation measures. There have been desegregation plans in recent years, but they were only on paper. International data from various NGOs show that children who are segregated do not have access to quality education. ” “Quality educational services can never be provided in those segregated schools or classrooms unless racial discrimination is first addressed.” - was the conclusion with which Cerasela Bănică ended the intervention in the show.
"Working together for an inclusive Europe!"
